A Sea-Day Afternoon: Desserts, Champagne, and Music

The afternoon began at the Arts Café with desserts, a coffee latte, and a matcha latte. Back in the suite, the motion-sickness medicine ordered the night before from the in-room TV had already been delivered and was waiting on the table. After a rest, upstairs to the bar — champagne to open, live music, and the little bites on the three-tier stand.

Arts Café: Desserts and Two Lattes

The afternoon's first stop was saved for Arts Café. Time moves slowly on a sea day, and dessert is just the way to give the afternoon its due — a plate of delicate sweets, a coffee latte and a matcha latte: one rich, one fragrant, neither stealing the other's moment. Bite by bite, time slowed along with them, and the afternoon stretched out long, long.

The desserts changed, and the drink changed with the mood — this time, a ginger tea latte. Held in hand, its foam gentle, the ginger's warmth slowly waking on the tongue, too comforting to finish quickly. At Arts Café on Deck 8, the patterned carpet is like a quiet sea; an afternoon on board was never meant to be hurried — the hurrying days have been lived enough on shore; here, slowness itself is the itinerary.

Back in the Suite: Medicine and a Rest

Back in the suite, the motion-sickness medicine ordered the night before on the in-room TV had already been quietly delivered by the butler and set upon the marble table. Being cared for is so often this kind of soundless thoughtfulness — before you have even asked, what you need is already waiting for you. A short rest first, then on to the next appointment.

Tea at the Bar: Champagne First, Music and Bites

After the rest, it was off to the staff-recommended bar, where the special afternoon tea was already waiting. As always, it opened with a favorite champagne — the moment the pouring figure caught my eye, afternoon tea had truly begun.

Then the three-tier stand arrived: canelés, muffins, and sandwiches, with scones resting on the lowest tier. Music flowed not far away; bite by bite, slowly, the champagne in the glass not yet finished. Enjoyment, perhaps, is exactly this — hurrying neither time nor yourself.

Eat slowly — the music will wait, and so will the champagne

The afternoon's route: Arts Café → suite → bar. One afternoon, three rhythms — sweet, quiet, and gently tipsy.
