Journey
Cabins, cruises, hotels and local tables — journeys as they were lived, with the details that mattered.
Journey
On the Seventeenth Floor, Waking Slowly with the City
Breakfast on the seventeenth floor is small, and the room is quiet. One slow circuit of the buffet counter, then we sat down and ordered à la carte: sea bass and lobster congee, the signature eggs Benedict, an omelette — and a glass of sparkling wine for the morning.
Journey
A Slow Morning: Breakfast on the Ground Floor
Breakfast is at Il Limone, on the ground floor. Omelettes made to order, ham carved to order, Japanese and Taiwanese hot dishes, freshly made beef soup, bread straight from the oven — and a glass of sparkling wine on the table. Sit by the floor-to-ceiling windows, and take a whole morning over it, slowly.
Journey
On the Seventeenth Floor, an Afternoon Given to a Tower
At half past two, the counter on the seventeenth floor turns over to afternoon tea: Earl Grey mille crêpes, croissants, fruit — and a three-tier tea stand that is served only once during a stay. We ordered both coffee and tea, sat by the window, and let the whole afternoon pass slowly.
Journey
On the 17th Floor, Dinner Taken Slowly
At half past five in the evening, we returned to the 17th floor, where the afternoon tea spread had been replaced by dinner: black gua bao buns, fish-roe siu mai, smoked salmon, sparkling wine chilling in its ice bucket, and the signatures the staff recommended — the InterContinental specials and a tiramisu cocktail. Two hours, to eat slowly and drink slowly.
Journey
On the Twelfth Floor, a Night Lived Like Home
The Midtown Suite at InterContinental Taichung, 65 square meters. A living room set apart from the bedroom, a whole wall of windows along the side, double vanities and a bathtub by the window — and, in one drawer, a pair of shoe trees and a complete box of stationery. The very mood of staying the night has been prepared for you in advance.
Journey
The Seventeenth Floor, Where the City Grows Quiet
Step into Club InterContinental on the 17th floor of InterContinental Taichung, and linger over a pot of pu-erh between the floor-to-ceiling windows and the long marble counter. With a short note on Taiwanese tea: meeting Ruby Red, cultivar numbers, and honey aroma through the tea menu.

InterContinental Taipei Junior Suite Stay Notes | A Night of Being Well Looked After in the City
Sometimes the best plan is no plan at all. One night in a Junior Suite at the newly opened InterContinental Taipei — lobby light like frozen rain, a sunset beyond the window, a pot of tea and a deep bath: a stay about being well looked after.
Journey
A Sea-Day Afternoon: Desserts, Champagne, and Music
The afternoon began at the Arts Café with desserts, a coffee latte, and a matcha latte. Back in the suite, the motion-sickness medicine ordered the night before from the in-room TV had already been delivered and was waiting on the table. After a rest, upstairs to the bar — champagne to open, live music, and the little bites on the three-tier stand.
Journey
A Slow Morning at Sea: Tea, a Japanese Lunch, and La Terraza
The second day at sea had no itinerary. Hot tea and coffee at the Art Café, lunch at the Japanese restaurant, and then a stop at the La Terraza buffet, where the seafood was too good to walk past — and neither were the desserts.
